Well it's been a looong time since I posted, shame on me! But, it's been a busy summer since I had guests from Sweden & England visiting me, and I even finally got a day job creating artwork for iphone games applications. So, I've been neglecting my blog.
But I finally have something worthwhile to blog about!
I had the pleasure of working with a great & prolific blogger, Gwen from After The Dress on several really fun projects so far this year. One was a rock climbing gear fabric commission, then a prize give-away - and most recently, I created the art on her fabulous Most Thorough Fabric Estimation Reference Cards!

So let's say you like to sew clothes and you're out and about and you see the perfect fabric for a skirt you want to make - but you don't have the pattern with you. How much fabric do you buy? Well, the charts and images on these cards help you estimate! Pretty clever, huh?

Random Freebie! Voynich Manuscript Scrabble Tile Sheet
Well of all the random freebies - here is a Voynich Manuscript Scrabble Tile Sheet I put together for fun.
I often find the weird little doodles that feature in this centuries old, undecyphered manuscript a source for inspiration for my designs. Yale university has a collection of high-resolution scans of it available here.

Something for Spring
I've got spring fever and I wanted to release a pattern that had a lovely spring colorful vibe. And here we have my first springtime design! It's a bit like peacock feathers, a bit like doves - and sugary sweet.

Welcome to The Missblackpepper.etsy.com Blog!
Well, I've decided it's about high time I put an introduction to this blog.
Here's what it's all about. I make & sell digital designs that can be printed on yards of cotton fabric. Some of them are just plain designs, some of them can be customized with names or initials. You know those books you can get with your kid's name printed in them? It's a bit like that only I just sell and customize the design and the purchaser gets the fabric printed up at Spoonflower or another similar service.
While my sketchbook may be filling up I haven't put out any new designs recently. This is a crying shame, I tells ya! But, I think it's a natural part of the creation process to go through highs and lows in productivity. The best way to get over an artists block is to just push on through by continuing to draw, draw, draw. The trouble with drawing small patterns, however, is that William Morris once said that people who make calico's go crazy. I'd better be very, very careful!
